Leporello Sketchbook

[by Mário Linhares, in Lisbon, Portugal]

This is what I like to do when using a Leporello Sketchbook (aka Concertina book): mix everything!

On the above sketch, I started with an old microphone during a class inside the Radio Museum of Lisbon. Then, in a class with my students, Omar came to share his sketching skills. Great class. Thanks Omar!

Below, on the left, the Lisbon Ceramic Tiles, during another class exercise about watercolor.

On right, a class about Indian Ink using Hugo Pratt’s work to include new into his vignettes. Amazing class creating new stories.

Below, creating storytelling during a 10×10 class in Lisbon, sketching inside the Palace of the last Portuguese King.

Rob Sketcherman visited Portugal to sketch Fátima centennial and we went to sketch one of the biggest parks of Lisbon, starting inside a Ceramic Museum dedicated to one great Portuguese artist: Rafael Bordalo Pinheiro.

After the park, and before Rob and Luisa leaves to Hong Kong again, we had to go taste the best cream cake in the world: Pastéis de Belém.

Below: another 10×10 class about public realm objects.

Below: during one sketch meeting in the North of Portugal, a beautiful city called Viana do Castelo. The panorama view of the city front and a boat sketched later.

The Chinese characters were there before, done in a different class about how to use watercolors and how the brush movement on watercolor is so connected to the Asian characters.

And finally: a sketch made inside the most ancient house of Lisbon: the Roman Theater.
