I held this drawing up to the computer screen to show my six-year-old grandchild during our weekend video chat. I’d sketched it ten days ago on my last day in the Bay Area before heading home to Iowa. She lives on the US East Coast and had visited San Francisco when she was five. Without prompting, she said, “Grandma Cia, that’s the Golden Gate Bridge!” Of course, I was impressed with my little ones visual memory, but it also confirmed my hunch that this is one of the most unmistakably recognizable bridges in the US, if not the world. What do you think?
It was a sunny and clear day, just a slight breeze. I probably could have found many great sight lines to the Golden Gate. I settled on this one, southwest from the bridge, from Lands End Park. While I sketched, my devoted husband and travel companion took what he described as an exceptional footpath, Lands End Trail.
