[By Ed Harker] I'm looking forward to giving a demonstration on the use of brush-pens for urban sketching at the Symposium next week. Kuretake have kindly sent me 50 of their 'detailer' water-brushes, my favourite 'entry-level' brush-pen, to give out for demo participants to try, and I've been busy filling them with dilute Lexington grey ink (Kuretake can't recommend this, but it works a treat!).
The demonstration has been designed as a basic introduction to brush-pens, especially their ability to cover both line and form. But I'm also interested in the possible barriers to using them, especially given the current wide interest in line variation through flexible fountain pens, and 'fude' nibs.
If you've never used a brush-pen, what's put you off or made it tricky?
And if you do use them could you share a couple of reasons why you do?
Any comments below would be much appreciated.
Thanks, and see you next week!
