[Guest post by Cathy McAuliffe in Alameda, California]
Alameda, California's annual Mayor's Fourth of July extravaganza is a great event. It is said that half the city is in the parade and the other half watches it.
The parade route is longer than three miles, allowing the city to claim it as the longest parade procession ever.
Those lucky enough to live on the parade route host barbecues and have front row seats to watch the event.
I took only two pens to the Independence Day Parade. I figured I would only need red and blue (and I was right).
