[By Jeroen Janssen in Doel] Today, King Philip I of Belgium will inaugurate the biggest lock of the world, near Doel.
There is a ferris wheel, open or public during the weekend. And a container village with a nice inner court. A big team of gardeners was unrolling the lawn yesterday. In the evening it has become a green oasis amongst the industrial desert of the harbor of Antwerp. The port management and the (antiroyalist) Flemish government clearly wanted to spare no trouble or expense to take care of their public relations. Relations with the king, or relations with the people who used to live here some years ago, with the people of the neighboring threatened villages?
I made the sketches below on a rainy day some years ago, on the same spot where I made the drawing on top of this blog.
