[by Mário Linhares, in La Tourette, France]
After KK visit to my School in Lisbon, we decided to use loose sheets of paper, so we can achieve the “same” results he does expanding our sketches.
Using the same dry ink, we should register the spirit of the convent in La Tourette. Le Corbusier wrote in his sketchbooks different type of notes. I did the same, trying to register some things impossible to sketch: feelings, smells, interpretations…
Working on the sketchbook again, we had the opportunity to sketch in one of the private zones of the convent: the crypt. This area was designed before the Vatican Council II and before that, each priest should celebrate individual mass every day, so the crypt has seven grey concrete altars. Each altar has one white stone with five engraved crosses and one little space for a relic…
There are some things that work better if we find another way to keep them in our sketchbook. This engraved crosses, representing the five wounds of Christ were made with decal. Looked to me the best option.
