By Paul Wang, Singapore

Last month, I was invited by Playeum to be a roving Urbansketcher during their Big Draw event. Playeum is Singapore's first Children's Centre for Creativity where families and children can play, create and be inspired together. The Big Draw was a 2 day event for children to try their hands at drawing, painting and just doing creative stuff with other kids. It was fun to see children drawing and having lots of fun with simple materials like paper and paint. Reminded me of my weekly outdoor drawing lessons when I was young. My role was to sketch along side the children and provide them with inspiration to draw. It was obvious children do not need any inspiration from me. They very quickly ignored me and dived straight into drawing. They were all bursting with creativity.
I saw also 3 types of parents during the Big Draw. Interesting for me to see how they view art making. Most parents are very shy and reserved.
1) Parents who played and drew along side their children.
2) Parents who were busy with their phones and left the children to play alone.
3) Parents who came to socialise and left their maids to mind the children.
I am just glad my mother gave me the opportunity to express myself as a child.
