patient and his wife in library, pen and watercolor, A 4
I went to Seoul Nat'l Univ. Hospital for regular checkup in ophthalmology yesterday. Because I arrived at earlier I entered the library - Jejungwon located at left of the main entrance of the hospital. Inside many patients or family members took seats reading books or journals. For I was not good in eyesight enough to read books I took out sketching gears on a table. Near the automatic doors of the library a man in wheel chair and his wife sat reading books. I sketched them. His right leg seemed injured.
book shelves in library, pencil and watercolor, A 4The library kept lots of books with special type of shelves in hall. The features looked special to me. I drew though lots of division in shelf were troublesome.
memo written on tissue by a woman seated near me in library
While drawing the second one a lady came and took a seat near me. She looked great like a model with good fashion in my point of view. So I told her "You look beautiful like a model." She smiled. And minutes later she laid a small memo on table. The text in Korean would be translated into like this :
"I took a seat next to you because (you) - an artist looks nice when I saw you hold brush.
(((Can I take a photo of you? Please permit for me.)))
If possible please let me know your name and phone number...I seem to be impolite?
I want to meet you again."
We talked for minutes outside of the library after getting warning from the librarian to be quiet. She told without hesitation about her wish to be an artist at her age of 60. Of course I introduced our urban sketching and encouraged her promising that I would keep in touch at my outings. I felt again that our holding brush itself on the spot could give chances and motivation for the dreamers or beginners. I always tell them to be courageous and to be persistent.
She took photo of me with my phone camera and hers too. Because I had to finish my sketches before going up for examination in checkup I fretted a while so I forgot to take her photo. Next time I wish to introduce her with her nice feature and her first sketches on the spot.
