Call for Submissions Singapore 2015.

We have a city: Singapore. We have dates: July 22-25, 2015. Now it’s time to create programming for the 6th International Urban Sketchers Symposium! To do that we need you, urban sketchers of the world, to submit proposals for Workshops and other Activities before Monday, December 22, 2014. Selected proposals will be announced in January.

(As examples, take a look at the programming selected for the 2014 Symposium.)

Teach a Sketching Workshop
These are the Workshops that have been a mainstay of past Symposiums.

Duration and Frequency: All Workshops will be 3.5 hours long and will be taught three times over the course of the Symposium.

Capacity: Workshops provide focussed instruction for up to 15 participants in each session.

Compensation: If your workshop proposal is selected, the Symposium organization pays for airfare and five nights of accommodation. Local instructors who will not need to travel will receive an honorarium of US$300.00.

In addition to the workshops, we are planning to offer a diversity of other programming in Singapore. What could you propose? Here are some ideas:

Lead a SketchWalk
Organize a “follow me” SketchWalk. People will draw where you lead them, as you give them a guided tour, pointing out notable sights of Singapore. Prior knowledge of this area of Singapore is helpful (see link to the map below).

Give a Lecture
We’ll have an auditorium with a projector. Present your own work, the work of other sketchers, sketching history, or another topic of interest or concern to fellow sketchers.

Do a Demonstration
Show us your on-location, observational process. What skills, techniques, and materials can you demonstrate that will enlighten and inspire other sketchers?

Surprise Us With Something We Haven’t Thought Of!
Do you have another activity idea that can take place during the Symposium? Yoga for sketchers? How to find the best fire hydrants for sketching? How to interview interesting strangers while sketching them? An approach to collaborative sketching? A fountain pen swap-and-share? Underwater sketching?

Duration: The duration of non-Workshop Activities may be variable. Let us know the time range you think would work best. A typical non-Workshop Activity will repeat at least twice throughout the Symposium. We are also open to proposals of innovative scheduling (an ongoing daylong drop-in activity? an early-morning or late-night gathering?).

Capacity: If you are proposing a non-Workshop Activity, let us know the maximum number of participants that you can support per session. Priority may be given to programming that can support a larger number of participants.

Compensation: If you are selected for a non-Workshop Activity as mentioned above, you will receive free registration for the Symposium and an honorarium of US$150.00.

Some details to keep in mind while drafting your proposal:

  • You can propose a Workshop for a specific spot or a general location. We recommend you to get to know the possible workshop locations before you create your proposal, in order to match your workshop theme with the city’s environment.
  • Workshop locations are subject to change and the organizers reserve the right to make the best arrangements and combinations of Workshops and locations.
  • Keep in mind the weather: “The month of July is characterized by essentially constant daily high temperatures, with daily highs around 31°C throughout the month, exceeding 33°C or dropping below 29°C only one day in ten.”
  • You may propose multiple Workshops and Activities.
  • The official language of the Symposium is English.

HOW TO SUBMIT PROPOSALS

  • All proposals must be emailed to symposium@urbansketchers.org
  • If you are proposing a Workshop, you must use this form and include sample sketches inside the proposal document (not as separate attachments).

DEADLINE
All proposals are due by Monday, December 22, 2014 (11:59 p.m. GMT)
