Going back home from Paraty at the beginning of September, I visited an old friend in São Paulo and gave a talk at his place, the Oficina Municipal, to a group of architects and public administrators about Urban Sketchers and public spaces. I showed some of our sketchers events in Naples and around Italy as a way to involve inhabitants and sketchers exploring unusual places, and how to use drawing for reportage in difficult environment or to get in touch with locals. Eduardo Bajzek joined me, to talk about urban sketchers meetings in São Paulo and our last Symposium in Paraty.
I spent the following day sketching around with a couple of architects and visited the Sesc, an interesting project by italian architect Lina Bo Bardi that I had studied long time ago. At noon we stopped in Ave Paulista under the covered square of the MASP, the Modern Art museum (another Lina Bo famous project, suspended on four red pillars), where there was a demonstration about the forthcoming elections.
A visit too short for such a big city, enough to experience the warm hospitality of people I met.
