Cape Bonavista Light

My 89-year-old father has been wanting to visit Newfoundland all his life. He says it’s the only Canadian province he hasn’t seen, so this summer my sister and I decided to take him there. Known for rain, fog and stormy weather, we packed for the weather. Except this year Newfoundland has been experiencing an exceptionally hot and dry summer. Nary an inch of rain in all of July. Needless to say, I wasn’t expecting the clear, bright days like this one at Cape Bonavista Lighthouse. Good thing I brought along lots of cerulean blue. Situated at the end of the Bonavista Peninsula, it seems like you are arriving at the end of the earth as you approach, except for the circus tent type structure set sharply against the sky. It may not have been a great summer for Newfoundland gardens but it sure was a great week of sketching on The Rock.
