Recently, as part of the Tel Aviv Illustration Week, USk Israel held its first group exhibition. This was accompanied by two Sketchcrawls that were arranged with the aim of increasing exposure to our group and exhibition. Since our group was first established, it has little by little turned into a real community and the idea of an exhibition had been tossed around for some time. For almost 3 years we have been holding monthly Sketchcrawls, and sketched a lot all over the city of Tel Aviv. The exhibition showed the work of 25 sketchers, each one with their own style and unique point of view, and it gave the viewer an opportunity to peek into their sketchbooks. The exhibition was divided not by artist, but by geographical area in Tel Aviv, and in this way, a visit to the expo was like touring the different areas of Tel Aviv, one drawing at a time!
Here are some more photos from the expo.
The exhibition week was very intensive, and our expo and sketchcrawls received a lot of exposure in different medias - we were featured in DesignBreak blog, appeared on channel one of national television and were written up in Israel's biggest newspaper Yedioth Ahronot, promoted by the Municipality of Tel Aviv. We saw a lot of newcomers to our two last sketchcrawls and to our FB group, and I always love to see new fresh faces discovering and joining our community. When I hear sentences like: "I had no idea that you exist: this is so great!" or "I haven't sketched for the last 20 years, and this is wonderful to come back to it again!" I know that all our hard work of the last few weeks was worth it!
Meanwhile, we are continuing to sketch together - please join us if you're in Israel!
