I visit Frankfurt quite often, but i tend to stick to my usual route. Frankfurt has the reputation of being Germany´s posh financial capital, but after arriving at the train station and walking through Bahnhofsviertel (station neighbourhood) you wouldn´t think so. It´s run-down, dirty, crowded, colourful, with turkish bakeries next to seedy amusement halls- it has a peculiar charm.
You quickly leave that behind when you cross the river to reach Schaumainkai, the other shore where it´s quiet next to the river promenade and the old villas housing museums offer great views of the skyline.
At Museum der Weltkulturen i met Jörg and Birgit for the 42nd Sketchcrawl, and we sketched carved crocodiles and scary looking skulls all afternoon! I´m excited to see our local group of sketchers growing steadily, looks like we´ll continue our museum sketching tomorrow at Naturhistorische Museum in Mainz .
I hope that on our next outing to Frankfurt i´ll venture further than my usual route of Bahnhofviertel and the museums, as much as i like those, i´m sure there´s much more to see.
