I hope it is not too late to say Happy New Year to everyone! … hope that 2014 is a great year all round for everyone. I spent my ‘ Christmas’ in Penang and my ‘New Year’ in Singapore and am back home with lots of scanning and posting to do. (I didn’t actually celebrate either in a traditional sense)
I am still working through all my Penang sketches but here are a few that are already up on my blog.
Go over to my blog here to read day by day accounts. I am trying to post a day a day at the moment.
I had a really special time this trip as I was able to carve out some solo sketching time in the beginning of the trip – 4 days to roam the streets of Georgetown, the historic part of Penang and sketch at will. I really wanted to have some quality time with my ink lines and my watercolour paints this time – pushing myself and trying new times. I had an absolute ball!
So much to draw in Penang – I love the grand colonial buildings, the elaborate shop houses, the historic clan jetties, the texture, the colour… it goes on. Here are a few highlights!
Another thing that was really special was the friendliness of the
people – both the locals and other tourists. I have never had more
interaction while sketching – made friends every day! So much fun!
I never feel alone when I am out on the street urban sketching!
It also was really great to catch up with Ch’ng Kiah Kiean on a few
occassions and sketch with the wonderful Penang Urban Sketchers group. It is rather special after admiring KK’s work for years, to be able to see the places he has captured on the page, but also I have a new appreciation of the Penang-ness of his work! More later….
