Last weekend the Urban Sketchers Sydney group meet at Milsons Point - a place where I have often sketched before - right under the northern edge of the harbour bridge with the stunning views across the harbour to the Opera House. However, this occasion was different on two accounts.
The first was that the crazy face entrance to Luna Pakr, Sydney's habourside amusement park was wearing a moustache! It is part of Movember. I think we agreed that the face actually looked nicer with a mo - less scary/ freaky.
And second was the bush fire smoke which descended on the harbour while we were sketching! There was a few fires and some serious back-burning happening in the surrounding areas of Sydney (50km north of the downtown) and the wind conditions must have pushed it down our way.
We have all had trucks and other vehicles drive up and block our view... but I am not sure how many times smoke has made it impossible to continue. Ah! sketching on location is so much fun isn't it!
Just when I thought we would have to call it off and go home (not great to be breathing it in) the wind changed and it started clearing again!
