Well here it is … My Barcelona sketches all together in one book (two weeks worth of sketching). They are actually spread over 2.5 sketchbooks (A4 watercolour moleskine books) but I have put them together in one.
There is a higher res version of this issuu here if you want to read all my crazy notes.
And as usual I also post all pages in a single image! I always like seeing this combination as it shows how the composition of the pages relate to each other (and give my ideas for next time!)
There are so many things that I could say about my time in BCN and how I feel about this sketchbook. There is no doubt that I was greatly inspired by the symposium and had so much joy sketching in Barcelona - a city that I really love… i hope this comes out in these pages.
I find that on some of my trips there is a fair amount of internal frustration or challenges that occur during a sketch that do not appear on the page... this time, once I got myself warmed up I felt that a lot of my work just flowed (even when I was trying new stuff) What a wonderful feeling! and I had enormous satisfaction from many of these sketches. I am not specifically thinking about the end result, but the internal dialogue I was having at the time... the joy in creating is what spurs me on!
Over at my blog, I restricted myself to a few random points to highlight some of the many thoughts still floating around in my head about the experience - I have listed them below
12 reflections on my time in BCN
1. Choice of sketchbook
2. Heaviness of sketchbook
3. Size of sketchbook (practical issues)
4. Trying to slow down and not sketch non stop all the time.
5. People are more important than sketching
6. Sketch posture and physical limitations
7. The need for time out
8. Crazy stuff
9. Homework - a LOT of it
10. Spreading out
11. Mixing it up
12. Subject matter.

I now have my sketches from 2 weeks in the UK to add notes to and scan ….sigh!
