I haven't done any urban sketching since I started my new job, so I was itching to get out and do it. My idea was to go into old town Clovis, but it was such a beautiful day today, my wife and I took our bikes out into the country a ways, riding along an irrigation canal, until we came to this spot. I brought along my sketchbook and paints, so got right into it. The eucalyptus and the wild oaks are some of my favorite trees, surrounded by endless fields of golden grasses. A couple of red-tailed hawks were floating above me. I may end up changing gears for a while, spending more time with these old trees, worn fence posts, rusty tractors, and leaning barns. The dry fields seem especially wonderful. And, if I haven't mentioned it before, I am truly enjoying the Pentel Hybrid Technica 0.3 mm pen. It just really works for this type of sketching and watercolor.
