My trip was so busy that it is no surprise that I got sick on my return home and have a lot of work to catch up on - so it has been a bit frustrating that I haven't been able to get out sketching like I want to. But on Saturday I finally managed to get out!Yay! The weather has been amazing since I returned - we are still in the winter months but with temperatures in the low 20Cs it doesn't feel like it.
So I headed to one of my favourite spots in Sydney… Balmoral - a sheltered harbour beach that looks out to the heads of the harbour. I am going to be teaching a sketching class on a Wednesday morning in this part of Sydney starting this Wednesday… so it was important that I 'case the joint'.
Two beaches Edwards and Balmoral beach are separated by a little rocky island and ….well it is just a lovely spot! I took off my winter boots and got my bare feet in the sand and the water and then sat down to play a bit with my paints and trying to avoid getting wind driven sand everywhere… though I was rather pleased with the interesting textures that the sand did make in my sketch!
I wasn't trying to do a 'proper' sketch but just have a little fun and play with my paints and pens/pencils. Very therapeutic!
Sitting on a beach looking at water and rocks just does something for me… and what a privilege to live in a city where I can do this even in winter. I never tire of Sydney harbour!
