Sketching at the Winery

Here is a little travel/workshop sketch. I went on a day trip to Bernardo Winery in San Diego with my artist friend Alice Picado to take a painting workshop taught by Shuang Li. I am still learning to put enough value range in my plein air watercolor painting. While my fellow Urban Sketcher Lydia Velarde sketched some flowers when she was there, the landscape I painted had bare vines since it was not a grape harvest season. I still enjoyed the crisp winter day, when Southern California was lush with greenery after the rain.

Lovely watercolor sketch. I'll have to check out the winery while in S.D.

I always appreciate seeing a photo of the sketch and the subject matter at the same time. What a wonderful place you found to paint.

Thanks, Lois and CharlieAmra! I'll have to return there since there are lots of things to sketch there including flowers, rustic tools, art installation, an old gasoline stand, all nestled in old buildings - oh yeah, the wine tasting room, too :)
