Clive Street at Little India, Singapore

Originally I intended to do the usual ink and wash but I realised I did not bring my watercolor paints. I do have a box of color pencils though and I thought maybe I could do an experiment with them; using the colored pencils as if I am painting. So I tried as much as possible to abandon the linear drawing approach but simply paint in mass and shapes. The result was quite liberating.

Clive Street at Little India is placed across Campbell Lane and it is a 4 way street surrounded by pre-war shophouses. You could literally sit anywhere and draw at any angle. I have been coming back for a couple of times now and I am loving it. Each time I told myself to do something different.

Really beautiful work, Don--I love the way you built this with masses of loose, color line.
