Convento da Graça

TV JOÃO DE DEUS 600

Sometimes the best sketching place is not the full frontal view.
Graça is a big church and old monastery on top of one of the classical Lisboa Hills.
It can be seen from far away and I have drawn it several times, but the views I prefer are the glimpses from narrow and steep streets on the opposite hill.

I like how the downward sweep of the street line takes me down but immediately upon getting to the bottom I shoot right back up from the narrow crop and straight lines.
For a few simple lines I like this a lot.

Feels a lot like Lisboa - a great city.
