where the old locksmith's used to be

davis locksmiths, now gone
DAVIS, CA: This is where the old Davis Lock and Safe building was located, until just a few weeks ago when it was demolished. It was lying empty, it wasn't doing anything useful, but I had previously drawn it a couple of times and grown quite fond of the building. In fact many Davisites had told me how much they liked this old locksmith, just an old place by the railroads that they cycled by every day, unchanging and ramshackle. Well now it's gone. At least I have the old drawings. So yesterday I went by to draw the empty lot. All that is left is this sign. I wonder what will go there?
Here is how it used to look, below. That's progress for you.

Before and after drawings are such a good idea. In the top sketch I like the contrast of the ink lines against the color of the background building. it really gives sense of the desolation of the empty lot.
