coming across a folklore band

27.5 x 17.5 cm

Yesterday I went to my village district office(Pyeongchang-dong) for the issuing of document. At the entrance of the building I saw the group. They were going to move by cars to starting place of the playing after some minutes' rehearsal. The temperature was very low, -15 degrees celsius after snow. The performance was originated at the southern area of Korea to get rid of evil spirits by treading the earth. All the villagers wished good luck and abundance of agriculture on the January 15th(Lunar). Nowadays the performanes take place in urban cities even. I could sketch two before they got on the cars. Korean lettered flag means Pyeongchangdong folklore performance(the sponsor, the players) and the Chinese lettered flag means that the agriculture is the foundation of a nation. The players consisted of the villagers of the district. Please see here in urban city and more in countryside for references.

I love the top sketch, and recognized your colourful style right away. Great post.
And I agree, agriculture is the foundation of a nation.

Not easy to capture people on the move or performing something at that temperature. Love them.
