Kandern Fasnacht Season

Kandern,Germany (Fasnacht)

It was -14 C in Kandern this morning, and I barely felt like getting out of bed, let alone sitting in my frozen car in the center of town. Yet the urge to draw once again overcame reason. At this time of the year you can find strings of underwear unashamedly blowing in the breeze, or in this case covered in frost. The decorations coincide the Fasnacht (carnival) season here in the Black Forest. Meanwhile, I'm wearing every article of clothing I own, trying to stay warm. By the way, a group of nuns walked by while I was sketching, so I had to add them, as they made an interesting contrast to the scene. (sketched on location, painted in a warm house)

I like the photo rather than a scan - I can relate to the icy ground under your sketch book. I'll resist one-upping you with the temperature here today, but it looks like we had more sun and less underwear.

Ouch, the underwear could be a bit cold on the nether regions though! Great sketch.
