Last week I posted some sketches of my visit to R'gueiba, one of the fishing villages of the Parc National du Banc d'Arguin.
The reason I was invited to go and sketch is because in some of the villages that have a running school an optional programme at weekends was starting for the children using a book - "Où sont les gazelles" I illustrated last year. Also they would like me to come and do some sketching outings with the children.
Teachers have been formed and the aim of the book is to teach the children about their environment. Animals, plants, sea and land. This coast where the Sahara desert reaches the Atlantique (dunes end up in the beach) is a very rich area for breeding. Fish and birds alike and of extreme importance for the whole planet.
So I assisted to a questionnaire where children had to answer about their surroundings. Actually all questions that were connected to the work done in the villages were very well answered. They'll knew the name of the 4 different types of sailing boats used in the Park by the fishermen to fish ( motor boats are not allowed). But they had difficulties in explaining what was a bird or a mammal.
Also answering the question what was the most important fish for the Imraguens, different fish were named showing how new types of fishing are spreading and delegating what was for centuries the sole fish eaten and captured by the Imraguens the mullet to a second plan.

Wonderful sketches.
I love your work Isabell, The sketches are expressive and simple at the same time. I enjoy reading the stories that join us with your drawings. They are always interesting for me. Gracias!
the colorful fashion, very attractive...
Superb lively ambience and color!
Very exciting sketches... thanks for giving me the opportunity to look into the life of a place I am not familiar with.
I wish I could have the same opportunity to be invited to sketch a location too.
great initiative Isabel! I bet the kids and the teachers loved every minute you were there and were inspired by your drawings!
I LOVE all the colors and patterns and shapes! Isabel, I think I say this every time, but these are my favorites of all you have done!
I agree with all of the above! Great patterns on the ladies outfits.
Me parece a mí o ultimamente tienes un trazo mucho más afirmativo? Me gustan mucho, todos.
