In honor of the tenth anniversary of the September 11, 2001 attacks on the World Trade Center I decided to post a few of the drawings I made that day. The events of 9/11/01 have had a profound effect on the United States and, by extension, the rest of the world. But I will always remember the effect it had on my fellow New Yorkers. On that beautiful sunny morning in September, our confidence in our city was shattered. The twin towers – those landmarks by which every lost New Yorker could orient themselves – had fallen, and with them, our spirit. But I am proud of my city and how it’s people pulled together after the tragedy. I am glad that the tenth anniversary also marks the opening of the memorial in the footprints of the former trade center. And the tower now being built will one day soon stand at 104 feet, finally filling that space in the sky where the World Trade Center once stood. I look forward to visit the memorial and remember that day, and all the beautiful people who were lost.
My fellow New Yorkers watch in shock as the towers burn, lower Fifth Avenue, Manhattan.
The second tower falls as I am drawing it. An unbelievable and horrifying moment. A woman turns and screams.
Stunned, scared, and confused, workers from downtown Manhattan stream up Broadway, billows of smoke behind them.
