On the last weekend in June, the hot Davis weather came out and so did the sketchers for another of our monthly Davis sketchcrawls. We met at the train station and sketched away, sat in the shade (or beneath big hats), exchanging ideas about materials and styles and generally encouraging and inspiring each other. Above is Salvador Castio, an artist from Stockton whose incredible work I'd seen online, and met for the first time. Below left is Janice from Rio Vista, another who I was meeting for the first time, who had sketchbooks filled with amazing drawings of Davis and other places in northern CA. We get quite a mix on these sketchcrawls, and while they're Davis-centric in location, the sketchers who come are from all over northern California, from the foothills to the wine country to the bay and the delta and down the valley, as well as from Sacramento and Davis. One other Davis sketcher I've met on these sketchcrawls (but who I didn't sketch!) is Marlene Lee, who prolifically fills sketchbooks with a really vibrant style you'll really enjoy.

It's always nice to meet sketchers you've never sketched with, to see how they work, what speed they draw at, how big or small they draw, what type of art background their sketching style comes from. That's why I'm so excited about the Lisbon Symposium in two weeks! I still can't quite believe I am going!!

I really enjoyed this Pete, great drawings, and enjoyed looking at the other sketchers you mentioned. Have a great Lisbon trip, wish I could be there.
Thanks for the mention, Pete!
Really like your expressive use of color in the 2 middle sketches.
