Ampawa, a neighbuorhood by the canals.

Just about an hour drive from Bangkok, exists a charming living life-style by the canal known as Ampawa. Long rows of wooden houses lined both sides of the canal with a few bridges linking the canal-side walkway at some points. The neighbourhood traces back some 250 years into the history (King Rama II) and now a major tourist destination. The community comes alive every weekend with its famous and colorful floating market and evening tours of fireflies sighting along the attached coastal line.
On my last visit, we stayed a night in one of the many bed & breakfast places that mushroomed at the alarming rate to meet the sudden popularity. Well, it's good that it allowed us the experience of the local life style but it is also sad that whome we meet there are no longer locals at all!

Any way, we managed to sketch a few view there. We did the two sketches from a vantage point on one of the bridge that link both bank of the canal. I was really fascinated by the use of charcoal sticks that give the hazy look to the view!
The canals branched off the main river mouth not far away and the water level varied dramatically. This daily high and low tide condition created a unique requirement of tall ladder at nearly every household for the residents to get up and down their small wooden boats. The best means of transport from house to house!

Wonderful sketches. Sad that many popular places become so touristy and less about the locals.

Stunning. I love the hazy quality of the charcoals - sort of like moody water reflections. Thanks for sharing these Asnee! :)

thank you so much every one for your encouraging comments. i appreciate it.

charcoal seems to have a life of its own, doesn't like small detail and very unpredictable when made to move around with just a simple swipe of finger!!!
it certainly is fun but i have yet to try more of it still:-)
