In fact this square is officially call Praça do Duque da Terceira but since the XVI century the people call it Cais do Sodré. Cais mean harbour and Sodré is the family name of an English family that had here their sea businesses. There are many places here in Lisbon where tradition names is stronger then the officially names. See more here, if you in the mood.
