Meet the correspondents: BARCELONA > Joan Centellas

"For most artists like me who paint in large format, the smaller size drawings usually end up in a drawer, unless a gallery or someone else buys them or I exchange them or give them as a gift.

For these smaller works I look for suitable paper, cut it to sheets in the size I like and make a hard bound book. Then I don't have the temptation to sell or give these drawings away. That's how I create my travel sketchbooks. And I own them all!"

You're so right about keeping the sketchbook work - it becomes a visual diary of your whole life. Mine have become my most precious posessions.

You're so lucky, by the way, to live in such an especially interesting city!
